Book burning--Lit Blog for 4/16

Today we talked about if we value books or not in today's world. Could it ever come to us forgetting about books and not caring...I'd hope not. I think enough people in this world love to still read and value what they're reading. We need books to learn new ideas and different ones. They give us different perspectives on things. The books we read in this class got me to thinking about things that I never really thought about before. I know I love to read especially over the summer when I have more free time. We may think now that people don't really care about reading but I think if they were going to make all books illegal you'd see much opposition. Its pretty amazing the amount of books people want band from certain places like schools. Like the one dictionary we talked about in class being band was just totally ridiculous and people really need to just calm down. The people who want the books band like on the list we got in class drive me crazy and to me their reasons seem stupid.

  1. I also hope that books are never fully eliminated. I think it is scary to think about a world where there will be no more books. I too value books but do not necessarily take the time to read them unless I am assigned to do so, unless of course I have some free time. I really do wish I would make more time to read "stories" but during the school year I think most students can agree that it is very hard to find free time to read for pleasure.

I was vey surprised when reading which books were banned. I mean, some of them had obvious reasons but I feel like schools are filled with a lot of politics that do not allow them to give students the opportunity to read these books. I myself have read a few of the books listed on the "banned books" list and found them really eye opening and inspiring. Even though the value of books seems to be low I hope to never see the day where no one reads anymore!

  2. YEA I AGREE! MY THING IS IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT READ IT BUT DONT TAKE IT AWAY FROM THOSE THEY MAY WANT TO EXPLORE AND READ ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM THIS WORLD. AS WE KNOW AND LEARN PEOPLE DON'T WANT US TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX THEY WANT US TO STAY IN THE BOX AND CONFORM TO THE THINGS AROUND US NOT ASKING ANY QUESTIONS WHAT SO EVER. WHICH IS A SHAME BECAUSE OUR DIFFERENCES IS WHAT MAKES IS UNIQUE
